project sLOGan - AKTO Festival for contemporary arts

The collaborative project by Bojana Isijanin and Ana Dzima, titled “sLOGan”, includes photographed slogans and aims to give a deeper insight into the meaning and role of slogans written across the city walls. They are manifestations of discontent, personal accomplishments, demands, impulses, commandments, pleas and seemingly, releasement of restraints. Focusing on the visitor and the spontaneity of the need to exchange ideas and experiences, cups with soil and some flower seeds were placed under each photo. The interactivity of the exhibition provides an opportunity for communication between us and the visitor, in a way that the visitor is free to decide which slogan he agrees with, to plant the seed that is under it, to take it with him and nurture it properly.

Susan Sontag, American writer, activist and one of the most influential critics and theorists in her time, refers to the camera as a weapon: “To photograph (people) is to violate (them). The more images of violence we see - of war; of victims of hunger or famine; or other injuctices- the more immune to them we become.” However, this interactive photo slot setting is intended to instill and open a wide field of thinking and developing a critical attitude. Slogans are often exhibited, so we would not become quickly immune to them.
